Deep diving specialty in La Palma

Are you an Open Water or Advanced Open Water diver looking to dive down to 40 meters? Learn everything you need to reach depths of 40 meters with the SSI Deep Diving Specialty, combining academic sessions and three deep open water dives. This course will enable you to plan and conduct deep dives with total safety and confidence.

La Palma is internationally renowned for its crystal-clear waters and stunning underwater volcanic landscapes. By scuba diving in La Palma at greater depths, you will access a unique ecosystem featuring black corals and marine species not found in shallower waters. We are fortunate to have black coral starting at 30 meters deep. Additionally, you can enjoy spectacular dives such as the Malpique Tower, a basaltic column rising from 45m to 30m, making it one of the most breathtaking dive sites on the island of La Palma.

What is considered deep diving?

Deep diving is considered any dive below 18 meters. Beyond this depth, specific measures must be taken to ensure everything is controlled, allowing you to fully enjoy the wonders found in the deep.

How long does this course take?

To complete the deep diving specialty course, you need to perform 3 dives. It is usually completed in a morning and a half: the first day involves two dives from 9:00 to 14:00, and the second day, the final dive. The first dive goes down to a maximum of 24 meters, the second to 30 meters, and the last one allows you to dive in La Palma down to 40 meters.

What are the requirements for the deep diving specialty?

To enroll in the SSI Deep Diver Specialty course, you must hold at least an Open Water Diver certification or equivalent (1*). It does not matter which organization issued your entry-level certification, as all internationally recognized agencies are accepted (PADI, CMAS, FEDAS, ACUC, RAID, SDI…).
